The event took place on December 16, 2019. It involved the presentation of the first competition of research projects on the history of Russian Orthodox monasteries.
The contest was initiated by the Feodorovsky Convent of the town of Pereslavl-Zalessky with the support of the Russian Society of Historians and Archivists, RSUH and the Development Fund of the St. Tikhon’s Orthodox University.
The presentation was opened by Grigory Lanskoy, Dean of the Department of Document Management and Technotronic Archives, First Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Russian Society of Historians and Archivists. He pointed out the importance of popularization of research activities in the field of history of Orthodox monasteries, and talked about the role of monasteries in historical processes.
The presentation was attended by M.A. students of the School of Archival Studies majoring in history of the Russian Orthodox Church, Dr. Andrey Popov, professor of the Department of History and Organization of Archival Affairs, Sister Natalya, a novice of the Feodorovsky Convent and curator of the Competition, and Mr. Rustam Yamoldinov, PR Director and Head of the Steering Committee of the Pereslavl St. Theodore Historical and Cultural Forum - 2020.
The purpose of the Competition is to support research projects that will go towards comprehending the role of Orthodox monasteries in historical processes and in the formation of the socio-cultural space in small towns of Russia.
The Forum was co-organized by the Pereslavl Diocese and Pereslavl-Zalessky State Museum Reserve.
