RSUH wished President Pivovar a happy 70th anniversary

The celebratory meeting was attended by Dr. Vasilyeva, Minister of Education of the RF, Duma delegates, and historians and archive specialists of renown.

Rector Bezborodov said in the congratulatory speech, that he was sure that Dr. Pivovar would continue to help the University carry out the tasks set by the latest corrections in the system of higher education.

The representatives of the Government praised the achievements of Dr. Pivovar in the development of the economic and scientific potential of the country, cultural rapprochement, the cause of international peace as well as his participation and contribution to the events related to history, source studies, methodology, international contacts, and, specifically, to the organization of a series of events to celebrate the Victory in WWII.


Dr. Pivovar is a holder of the Order of Honour and is the laureate of the Geidar Aliev Award for the development of relations between Russia and Azerbaijan.

Dr. Pivovar is a historian of renown, the founder and Chair of the Department of post-Soviet countries at MSU, Director of the Institute of post-Soviet and inter-Regional Studies, Chair of the Russian Society of Historians and Archivists, and Board Member of the Russian Rectors’ Union.

In his speech Dr. Pivovar talked about the achieved tasks and the tasks that lay ahead. He mentioned his books “Teacher and Teaching In Russia” (with foreword by Minister Vasilyeva and himself), his book on the Russian world outside Russia, about the about-to-be-launched journal “Eurasian Studies” as part of the series “Vestnik RGGU”. The board of contributors for this journal includes experts from RSUH, MSU, MGIMO, Far Eastern University and the CIS countries. Dr. Pivovar also mentioned the annual publication on studies on specific countries. He also said: “I am involved in the studies of integration processes in the CIS countries, I edited a new edition of “Eurasian Intergration Project”, published an article in “Vestnik Arkhivista” about archive studies in former Soviet republics… The plans are to continue academic activity. There are also certain educational and organizational achievements. We have developed a curriculum for a new conflict resolution program. Jointly with the Institute of Management, Economics and Law, we intend to create a Master's program in sustainable development related to managerial processes in the post-Soviet space. We are working on ​​creating a Belarusian Studies Center at RSUH. Jointly with our Belarusian colleagues we have written a study guide on the history of the Great Patriotic War... We are planning to carry out similar projects with Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan and, I hope, some day with Ukraine. ”



The Minister of Education of the Russian Federation Olga Vasilyeva called the Pivovar’s anniversary a significant event in the life of the country and Russian history, after which she presented him with the badge “Honorary Worker of Education and Enlightenment of the Russian Federation”. “This is an old award,” the minister emphasized. - Since ancient times, it has been given to those who make a great contribution both to the upbringing and education of our children. A book about teaching, published at RSUH, is very important today as we are trying to make our teachers more respectable. This book will tell everyone about the role the teachers played in the life of our country. This is the largest of our joint projects with Dr. Pivovar. In the second place (in scale) is the project "Soviet teachers during the Great Patriotic War."

The Ministry found RSUH to be not only a very good partner, but also a friend, and this has been the achievement of Rector Bezborodov. Together with Vice-Rector Pavlenko, we also carry out many projects via our program “Russian Language in Russia and Abroad”. With all my heart I want to wish you, Efim Iosifovich, a happy birthday, and wish you and your family well-being, health and success! ”


Dr. Yuri Zinchenko President of the Russian Academy of Education, Dean of the Department of Psychology at MSU, conveyed best wishes from MSU Rector Viktor Sadovnichy, and also handed a certificate of honor from the Russian Psychological Society and a medal for Dr. Pivovar’s significant contribution to the educational institutions of higher education.
