RSUH students majoring in Archive Studies restored archive legacy of the Republic of Abkhazia

Two RSUH grad students, Milana Bjaniya and Anastasiya Knyazeva, presented a project that had led to publishing surviving documents from the State Archive of Abkhazia.

The archive, which in the period of 1840-1985 had amassed over 700 sections, lost about 95% of its content following the Georgi-Abkhazia War in 1992-1993.

In 2016 the project “History and archives. Interstate dimension” was proposed and supported by Dr. Malysheva, Dean of the Archive Studies Department of RSUH and Dr. Bzhaniya, Head of the Education and Science Committee of the Parliament of Abkhazia.

The group of student activists were engaged in finding Abkhazia-related documents in Russian archives. The actual publishing was made possible due to a grant support from the Federal Agency on Youth Affairs.

The group extends their thanks to all organizations and individuals assisting the project.
