International conference “1917: state, power, territory”
The event took place at RSUH on October 25, attended by RSUH faculty, experts from other Russian universities, RAS fellows and researchers from Lithuania, Poland and Italy.
Acting Rector Bezborodov and President Pivovar delivered welcome speeches in which they talked about the significance of the Revolution of 1917. Also presented was a welcome address by Dr. Narochnitskaya, President of the Historical Perspective Foundation.
Dr. Arkhipova, Chair of the Department of History of State Institutions and Public Organizations, defined the goal of the Conference as further research into the transformation of the institute of power under the influence of the crisis of 1917.
Dr. Sorokin, Director of the Russian State Archive of Socio-Political History, presented a new encyclopedia “Russia in the year 1917” and said that the authors had focused primarily on classification and generalization of the existing facts, conclusions and expert evaluations, including the previously unrepresented archive materials.
At the plenary session the following presentations were made: the one by Dr. Medushevky, Professor of HSU, Dr. Shelokhaev, Head of the Center “History of Russia of the 19th-the Beginning of the 20th Century”, Dr. Laurinavicius, Head of the Section of the 20th-Century History at the Institute of History of Lithuania, and Dr. Lanskoy, Dean of the Department of Document Studies and Technotronic Archives of RSUH.
The Conference included the following sections:
- Soviet state system: continuity or disruption
- Governance in Russia during wars and revolutions
- Issues in Russian governance in 1917
- State and society in 1917.
