The lecture “500 years of the Reformation” by Professor Wolfgang Huber, former chairperson of the Council of the Evangelical Church of Germany
The lecture was delivered 12 October 2017, organized by the Russian-German Center of RSUH with the support of the German Embassy in the RF. It was moderated by Dr. Rostislavtseva, Head of the Russian-German Center.
Dr. Zabotkina, Vice-Rector of RSUH, spoke on the general and universal importance of the Reformation period.
Mr. Jan Kantorchik, Head of the Culture Department at the Embassy of Germany, gave a welcoming speech, in which he hoped that Dr. Huber’s lecture would pave the way to a further academic dialogue.
Dr. Huber talked about the history of the Reformation, the role of Martin Luther and his translation of the Bible. He went on to say that nowadays the Church defined its unity in diversity and the Evangelical Church came as a supporter of Christian ecumentism. He also put forward a thesis that, thanks to the Reformation, the Christian faith-based concept of love came to be regarded as love towards your neighbor. He concluded the lecture with the description of the Anniversary celebration in Germany.
