International round table “The role of Russia and India in BRICS” held at RSUH

The event took place 11 September 2017, with the participants being Russian and Indian researchers, indologists, orientalists, students from leading Moscow universities, from Center of India and Institute of International Relations, History and Oriental Studies of Kazan Federal University.

Mr Rakesh Pandey, First Secretary of the Political Department of the Embassy of India, spoke on the progress of overall goods turnover, it being now 16% (formerly 11%) of the global one and GDP rising from 12% to 23% of the global. The next step, added Mr Pandey, is raising the investment factor, which this year is expected to come to over $4bln, which will go a long way toward integration between Russia and India.

Ms Lisa Sareen spoke on her work at the 21st International Economic Forum in St.-Petersburg at which sizable contracts were signed between the two countries, in particular, between ROSATOM and the Indian Heavy Engineering Corporation.

Dr. Rameshwar Singkh, the President of DISHA Russian-Indian Friendship Society, spoke on educational projects for students that study achievements of Indian science.

Dr. Kashmir Singh, President of Indian Association “Hindustani Samadj”, spoke of the Association that is celebrating in 2017 its 60th anniversary.

Dr. Ajay Patnaik, Dean of JNU Delhi, summed up the results of the last DRIC summit in China whose goals had been to increase the number of mutually beneficial and global partnerships to further the cause of peace and improve the system of global management.

The Table was organized by the Dept of International Relations at the Institute of History and Archives and International Center of South Asian Studies.
