On November 27 the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium in Moscow, Mr. Jean-Arthur Régibeau, delivered a lecture at RSUH on the topic "The European Union and Russia in search of mutual understanding".
Before the lecture Mr. Régibeau had a meeting with the Vice-rector for International Cooperation, Ms. Zabotkina, and RSUH stuff. During the meeting Mr. Régibeau noted the importance of the cooperation between RSUH and the Belgian universities and his willingness to support scientific and educational projects within the framework of Russian-Belgian cooperation.
In his lecture, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium, Jean-Arthur Régibeau, raised the problem of the stereotypical portrayal of the Russians as an unwelcoming and gloomy nation. He noted that he was pleasantly surprised to learn how open and welcoming Russians actually are. In his opinion, the only way to eliminate stereotypes is to build a dialogue between the countries, which requires not only the knowledge of the history, the culture and the customs, but also the knowledge of the language of the partner-country.
At the end of his lecture Jean-Arthur Régibeau noted that Russia is an unquestionably attractive place for Belgian students who come to RSUH every year to learn Russian language, history and culture and eventually fall in love with Russia.
